(The end - for now) of What I've been up to

Inspired by the apron I made my mom, after Christmas sales and winter nesting I have been quite industrious. Here is a group shot of the aprons I have made, followed by individual pictures. I have a few more I want to finish but no time right now.

And I made a few diapers and an apron for Haiti.

I made the pattern for this one from my granny's holey, threadbare one that my mom was still wearing. I think it turned out great. Mom -yours will look just like it but with the pink (to make the boys wink) bias tape you requested.

What I've been up to - getting organized

When I started all the mittens I told you about in the last post I had an awful time finding and matching my double-pointed needles. Most of the plastic envelopes they come in had ripped and the needles were loose all over my craft shelf and stuck in pattern books. I figured there had to be a better way to store them so I started looking for cases in stores. Nada. I looked on line and found a few for sale but they were all over $60. So I found a few tutorials on needle rolls, some scrap material and bias tape (leftover from making aprons) and got to work.

Here are the raw materials.

And the finished product! It only took a few hours and I am pleased with the results.

When I am done, I fold down the upper half, roll it up and tie it. No more lost needles!

Presents!

Kevin got a new camera - waterproof, shockproof and freezeproof - great for all his hobbies. I got a pass to the nordic centre 2 blocks away.

Last time I visited my parents I noticed my mom was still wearing my grandmother's apron. She died more than 28 years ago and it was old then. I decided to make her a new apron and here she is opening it and modelling it.

Connor does not like clothes. He wears the same 3 shirts in rotation even though he has a drawer full of different ones. Part of the reason he chose the Catholic high school was so he didn't have to think about what to wear - they have a uniform. I bought him this "dress" shirt to help him out on Sundays.

More on Aprons

This is how they wear aprons in Cuba. Apparently us Canadians have the wrong idea. They are not for cooking - they are for dancing! Looks like a lot more fun doesn't it?
