Tomorrow marks my one year anniversary as a blogger. My dear husband set everything up for me (including the name) as a Christmas gift last year. I am enjoying keeping in touch with so many old friends and their families. Mushing Mum created the interest to blog. She told me that blogging made the everyday occurrences exciting. I still don't see much exciting but I have enjoyed documenting everything for posterity (occasionally to the chagrin of my embarrassed children).
Since it took a while for the rest of you to realize I was blogging I thought I would repost one of my first blogs for you to puzzle over. I got these neat Christmas gifts last year that I wanted everyone to see. One of them came in my stocking and I knew right away what it was. The other two came together in a gift bag and had me and the rest of the room (except for the giver) absolutely stumped. They are not sex toys. A musical instrument? No. The egg is flat on the side it is resting on - Was it part of an antique mortar and pestle? No. I was given the hint it was something I had talked to my dad about last year and that didn't help at all. Any brave souls out there want to guess? I will tell you in a day or two and end the suspense.

I'm pondering each item...
I remember I had a suggestion last year, but I don't remember what it was.
The centre item looks like a hot chocolate fluffer.
I'm glad that you decided to blog (in spite of the chagrin of your children) I like feeling like I'm a part of your life on a regular basis. After all we have been friends since I was 11 months old which of course means all of your life. With blogging I feel like you are my "Best Friend" (even if I rarely see you) just like when we were little.
I enjoy Caitlin's blog too and I'm thrilled that she reminded me of you when she visited this fall. Made me feel young, yet timeless all at the same time.
Merry Christmas. I love you
Susan
The one on the right looks like an old Scottish Spirtle-a stick to stir porridge.
Merry Christmas to all of you!!
The middle one looks like it is used for darning holes in socks. It is to hold tension on the sock while darning it.
The one on the right is a stiring stick.
The one on the left is to put in Kevin's shoe to make him limp.
As Dad was looking at it I said the middle one reminds me of the tool for darning socks, but it's narrower than mine. He was already typing that one - great minds and all.
I like the spirtle suggestion.
My guess for the white thin one is for pushing marrow out of bones?
Can't wait for the real answers.
Thank you all for your guesses. The first two are for darning socks. Gryper - I think Kevin would notice if I put it in his boots but I have considered bludgeoning him with it. But that wouldn't really be fair since I expressed interest in my dad's darner (which looks more like a mushroom - nothing like mine) and he commissioned their making. The last one is indeed a spirtle - a Scottish stirring stick for oatmeal. I had no idea what they were when I unwrapped them - thanks FG for your very creative guess.
Susan - thanks for your kind comments. We have been best friends since I was born (except for a few years in high school). I learned so much from you since you were a step ahead of me and did everything first. I really enjoyed the years we were in Portage and saw each other regularly. Too bad the kids don't remember those visits! We can talk about anything even though we don't see eye to eye on some important issues (like politics and religion). We have remained close despite the distance between us. I guess Anne Shirley (of Green Gables fame) would say we are kindred spirits! I love you too.
Kris - I guess I should welcome you to this little circle of bloggers and explain so you will understand who is who. Susan (Mushing Mum with a u) has been my best friend since we were born across the road from each other. All those midwifery books you bought years ago came from Susan. Her sisters are Fiddling Granny and Cherylinn (Shady Lane). Gryper is their ever positive father (who was the best man at our wedding as he knew Kevin as well from being his scuba instructor). Their kids blog too but it will take you a while to figure out all those relationships and where they are. Everyone else - Kris has been a friend since she was posted to Goose Bay with us about 21 years ago. Maybe she will started sharing her exciting life with us soon.
Gryper was actually our MC (emcee these days I guess)
She knew that and mistypd
I finally got back to check on the comments.
I can't believe that you would EVER consider bludgeoning Kevin. lol
I think the few years in High School were probably a test of our friendship and clearly we managed to survive the teenage brains we had and go back to being normal. (I speak for myself here, naturally you were always normal.)
